Kameng Rafting Expedition in Uttarakhand

This is a 12-day trip starting from the Seppa region of Arunachal Pradesh where you can experience the Grade 3, 4 and +4 degree rapids. The Kameng River is a stream which comes out of Brahmaputra River. In this trip, you also enter the last frontier part of the North Eastern region of India.
This River rafting expedition starts from Pancheswar and goes down the Kali – Sharda River to end at Tanakpur. This trip is in the Kumaon region of the Himalayas. This river also acts as the border between India and Nepal.
Uttarakhand is the ideal for adventure sports. Displaying breath-taking view , windy rivers, high mountains and soaring sights of the mighty Himalayas. An outdoor enthusiast gives a personal account of a trip rafting expedition down the Kali-sharda river in the Kumaon region of the Indian Himalaya. The river runs as a border between India and Nepal, showing great whitewater potential in Uttarakhand in India.Your expedition trip begins at Kathgodam,Uttarakhand. It forms the last station on its Indian Railways line. From here onwards, you would have to take the automobile to reach the Kumaon region of the Himalayan Mountains. Camp sites are heavenly on isolated remote beaches.
The river trip starts from Pancheshwar, and finishes at Tanakpur.With big strong eddies and eddy lines, the challenge to paddle downstream was great. As we made our way down,This is a high volume river with mostly up to class III kind of rapids and one class IV rapid. One night would be at guest house in Lohaghat, and two nights camping besides the river.

Day Itinerary

  • Day 1
    Fly from Delhi to Guwahati. Overnight stay at a hotel.
  • Day 2
    Drive 5 hours to Bhalukpong. Overnight stay at a Camp.
  • Day 3
    Drive 6 hours to Seppa. Overnight stay in a hotel.
  • Day 4
    Drive 4 hours to Marjangle and set up camp.

    Get the raft & the gear ready for the expedition. One can walk down the beach and enjoy the twittering of the birds and the rushing water. Dinner around the campfire is filled with conversation about the coming days on the river.
  • Day 5
    The expedition on the river begins with a few easy rapids, drifting through the thick forest we get to encounter some good grade 4 rapids named ‘Maxed Out’, ’Pakke Sock Sucker’ ,’Gruesome Geyser’ to name a few.

    Set up camp late afternoon on sandy beach after a good exciting day on the river.
  • Day 6
    Paddle through a gorge which provides some stunning views. Paddle bouncy grade 3 rapids which are the highlight of the day as a lot of small streams & rivers come in adding volume.

    As we leave the first gorge, we float through the Seppa town to pitch camp on a sandy river beach. Spectacular views of streams falling into the Kameng surround us and we go to bed dreaming of the river and what the next day holds.
  • Day 7
    The day starts with an easy float section as we go away from the villages

    into the remote gorge of the Kameng, where there are good grade 3-4 rapids before we reach camp at the rivers confluence.
  • Day 8
    Layover day. One can choose to wake up late, laze around the camp or take a

    nature walk & explore the remote gorge around, sunbathe, bird watch, try a hand at fishing or just lay on the beach & read a book.
  • Day 9
    This is a great section of the Kameng River as the Bichom River joins it, increasing volume adding punch to the rapids.

    We encounter 23 grade3 to 4 plus rapids. We scout the rapids and negotiate them accordingly. Set up camp in the afternoon and rest our aching muscles. This is the remotest section on the Kameng River.
  • Day 10
    Today we encounter 18 grade 3 to 4 rapids. Once we raft pass the dam site we negotiate awesome‘full on’ whitewater.

    Set up camp by a rapid tonight to celebrate the last evening around the camp fire on the trip.
  • Day 11
    The last day on the river has 17 grade 3-4 plus rapids & a stunning gorge .

    Raft to Bhalukpong – the takeout point where the river slows down as it enters the plains. Overnight stay at a Eco camp.
  • Day 12
    Begin the drive back to Guwahati & fly back to Delhi with some great memories of the Kameng River.

    Cost Include

    • All road transfers by private vehicles from Haridwar to Haridwar.
    • Accommodation will be provided throughout the trip as mentioned in the itinerary on twin sharing basis.
    • Meals: As per itinerary. Tea /coffee, snacks & drinking water during the trek or raft. All meals would be vegetarian.
    • English speaking & professionally trained mountain & river guide.
    • Kitchen staff would accompany the group on the expedition.
    • Porters / Mules will carry one bag per client ( not to exceed 10 Kgs)
    • Camping equipment: 3/4 season tents , sleeping bags, ground mattress, mess tent & camping tables & stools.
    • All rafting permits and park entry fees.
    • First Aid Kit.
    • Self bailing rafts will be provided to participants with maximum 6 /8 participants per raft.
    • For safety, Road support Camp’s Jeep(if road possible ), expert and qualified rescue kayakers will escort the Entire trip.
    • Use of equipment and the services of trained guides for outdoor activities.
    • All class rafting gear (rafts, life jackets, helmets, safety kayaks, dry bags).
    • Experienced river guides and kayak professionals with international Certifications for white water rescue and first aid /CPR.
    • River running permits and Rescue-3 International Certified Guides.
